Group Instruction

Golf instruction doesn’t have to be a one-on-one activity. Sometimes a group setting for golf instruction is the best way to learn. In a group setting you can feel more relaxed in knowing that you’re not the only one “trying” to learn the short game or how to drive. Additionally, it helps to watch others – learning from other’s mistakes and sharing what you’ve learned from your mistakes. It’s also fun if you bring your crew with you!
  • Ladies Golf "101" - Get Golf Ready

Our Ladies "101" classes are 6 weeks in length and provide the fundamentals necessary to "Get Golf Ready".

In just a few short lessons, our Ladies "101" classes will teach you the basics of golf and help remove the unknowns of the game. Basic fundamentals such as:

    • What to expect when you arrive at the golf course
    • How to drive a golf cart
    • How to check in
    • Proper dress code
    • Proper course and practice range etiquette

....and all things that make the game of golf fun and enjoyable!

Our professionals will show you the many ways to play the game – combining fun, fellowship and golf readiness.

This is a great program for beginning ladies to learn the game of golf in a fun, relaxing environment.  Our 6-week classes are $180 for WH Members and $240 for non-members.  Ladies Golf "101" class schedules will be released in mid-February of 2025.

Contact Chris Cauthen, PGA Head Golf Professional, at chris.cauthen@southernland.com for more information and class schedules.

  • Junior Golf Academy - Spring

Our Junior Golf Spring Academy is an 8-week program for boys and girls ages 6-13 (beginner to intermediate).  Sessions are divided by age groups (6-8) on Tuesday afternoons and (9-13) on Wednesday afternoons to provide age and skill-level appropriate fundamentals, games, and drills to maximize each child's potential.  The Junior Golf Spring Academy is a great way for boys and girls to learn the fundamentals of golf and develop a true love for the game!

Beginner - any child, regardless of age, who is new to the game of golf or who has very little experience in playing. This child may have started the Level 1 testing program but has not completed over half of the required skills.

Intermediate - any child, regardless of age, who has participated in several camps, clinics, or lessons in the past and has completed most of the requirements, if not all, to pass Level 1 or Level 2 in the testing program.

Advanced - any child, regardless of age, who plays competitively on a junior tour and has passed all Levels of junior testing (passed Level 3 in the U.S. Kids Golf Assessment program).  Advanced-level players should consider private instruction with one of our golf instructors.

Please contact Chris Cauthen, PGA Head Golf Professional, at 615-599-4420 or by email at chris.cauthen@southernland.com for more information.

We will continue to utilize concepts of Long-Term Athletic Development (LTAD) aimed at the development of athletic skills for each child to further aid their success in the game of golf as well as other sports. We use developmental programs from American Development Model (ADM) through the PGA, Titleist Performance Institute, U.S. Kids Golf, Operation 36 and SNAG golf to develop athletic movements and motions that will establish a foundation to perform the necessary movements to better enjoy the game of golf. The ADM model focuses on skills and motion in multiple sports and is used by U.S. Hockey programs for athletic development.

We will focus on every aspect of the game and focus on making golf fun!

The program will incorporate instruction, games, and activities specifically targeted to train each child on golf-specific movements and are geared toward the beginner and intermediate-level golfer.   Each session will last 75 minutes to allow for more time to be dedicated to each child to further develop their skills and enjoyment of the game.   We will continue to utilize the U.S. Kids Golf assessment and skills programs to promote continued improvement for each child with their golf game. The U.S. Kids Golf assessment program will allow each child to learn basic golf fundamentals while assessing their strengths and weaknesses for a more focused practice approach.

Children of Full, Executive, Junior, Corporate, National, and Academy members are eligible to participate in the program.   The Academy sessions are limited to 24 juniors with an 8 to 1 student-to-teacher ratio. Spaces are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis and limited to children of Westhaven Golf Club Members or guests if space is available.

There will be two sessions for the Spring Junior Academy:

Tuesday Sessions will be for kids 6-8 years of age (beginner and intermediate) - Starting Tuesday, March 25th.

Wednesday Sessions will be for kids ages 9-13 (beginner and intermediate) - Starting March 26th.

Sessions will begin at 4:45 p.m. and end at 6:00 p.m. Grandchildren and/or friends of eligible juniors may be added if space is available 1 week prior to the registration deadline.

Junior participants will receive a U.S. Kids Golf Learning Program booklet.
